The class works on building the foundations of a yoga practice, which not only
focuses on alignment it offers us the opportunity to explore the asana practice
in greater detail.
With focus on precision we help to refine movement and create stability as
well as lightness.
We are encouraged to tune into our bodies bringing about an internal
connection and deeper awareness, being attentive to where and how we are
creating tension. By relaxing our habits we bring our consciousness to these
areas to reduce tension whilst we use the breath to facilitate movement. In
doing so returning the mind to a calm state of being.
We hold the (asana) posture for a longer period of time allowing us to explore
By understanding the use of the feet we begin to experience how a stable
foundation creates support up through the legs, pelvis, spine, arms and head.
We learn how the correct use of the arms and legs open the spine, increasing
mobility as we lubricate the joints bringing more flexibility to these areas. Thus
creating space and opening up to a stronger and more flexible body as we
begin to balance the body’s energy and physicality.
Standing postures are the powerful grounding physical foundation for the
overall practice that prepares us for the floor -based postures.
The use of blocks, straps and bricks can help bring more understanding of
alignment in the postures, allowing for a deeper way to work, creating the best
possible alignment whilst the body opens up.
